Greystoke Castle, Penrith, Cumbria 22nd & 23rd August 2026 Step back in time and experience a fantastic weekend of living history as the grounds of Greystoke Castle are transformed into a vibrant 1940s wartime setting. Greystoke at War brings the past to life with military vehicles, authentic re-enactors, live music, dancing, guest speakers and interactive displays for the whole family. Visitors can explore Allied and Axis living history camps, see impressive wartime vehicles from the Military Vehicle Trust (MVT), watch demonstrations, and listen to fascinating talks about the Second World War. Throughout the weekend enjoy the sounds of the wartime era with live entertainment including: • Rachel Mercer – 1940s vocalist • Amy Anderson Walmsley – wartime favourites, Jazz & Swing Classics’ • George Formby tribute entertainment Visitors will also be able to dance along to classic songs of the 1940s, bringing the spirit of the wartime dance halls to life. Meet Winston Churchill and Mrs Clementine Churchill, portrayed by historical interpreters appearing across the weekend. Family Activities Families are warmly welcomed with plenty to see and do including: • Children’s Evacuee Experience • Ration books for children to exchange for wartime treats • Best Dressed Evacuee competition • Educational displays about how the war affected Cumbria • Living history camps and demonstrations Children arriving dressed as 1940s evacuees will be entered into the Best Dressed Evacuee competition. Food & Facilities Food and refreshments will be available throughout the weekend at: • The Carriageworks Restaurant • The Moody Mare outdoor bar Other facilities include: • Children’s play area • Free parking • 1940s traders This special weekend is both educational and commemorative, remembering those who lived through the Second World War and honouring those who gave their lives so we could live in freedom.DATES
